Bask There
are a number of distinctions that have set *Bask apart from other
influential stallions in the breed. With 1,046 registered purebred get,
he was the leading sire of Arabians for several years after his death.
*Bask was also one of those rare U.S. National Champion Stallions to
sire a U.S. National Champion Stallion. In addition to his national
halter title, *Bask was named U.S. National Champion Park, U.S. National
Reserve Champion Formal Combination, and U.S. National Reserve Champion
Formal Driving. And last but certainly not least, *Bask left behind an
impressive siring record that includes close to 500 champions, of which
nearly 200 are National winners. -- by Ristin Berkery [Top] |

Kuhailan-Haifi In 1930 Prince Roman Sanguszko organized an expedition to Arabia in order to add new blood to his Stud. Four desertbred Arabian stallions were among the horses brought back to Poland in 1931. One of those stallions was Kuhailan Haifi. A blood bay with a bright star in his forehead, Kuhailan Haifi was bred by Khalef el Aouad in Arabia, and foaled in 1924. Prince Sanguszko's agent was Mr. Zientarski and he told of the first time he saw Kuhailan Haifi. "During a three day stay at Abu Draatha I noticed some bay Kuhailat fillies, very equal in type and beautiful indeed. They were sired by a bay stallion, belonging to the Ruala Bedouins in the neighborhood of Jauf...finally they lead in the bay Kuhailan Haifi. It is just the horse I am seeking. Not large, dry, on splendid legs, no trace of cow-hocks. A long neck, a noble head not very small, with distended thin, movable nostrils, a splendid high-carried tail...late in the night the stallion was bought and delivery arranged."Kuhailan Haifi was the best stallion obtained by Prince Sanguszko. Purchased at Jauf, he was truly in the desert, not in outlying regions. Kuhailan Haifi lived but two years after arriving in Poland. He died after siring only 14 foals, the last born in 1935, and only one that year. Of these foals, only five were colts. [Top] |

Comet (Abu Afas x Carmen) Comet, a horse highly valued in Poland and noted for great trotting action. It was fortunate that his quality was recognized early as he died in 1964 at age 11, leaving behind only 86 foals (a number which includes the in utero exports to various countries). Eleven of his get imported to the US or Canada have captured 25 National honors, most in the Park division, and include *Meczet who has National Championships in Formal Driving, Formal Combination, Park and Costume. Some of Comet's daughters include Warmia (dam of US National Champion Mare *Wizja), Engracia (dam of European Champion Engano), Eunice (dam of Polish National Champion Stallion *Eukaliptus and the sires Euben and *Eunizar) and Arba (dam of European Champion Stallion Arbor and Arra who not only won the Triple Crown of Derby, Oaks and Criterium but was Polish National Champion Mare and European National Champion Mare). Comet's son Grojec was a popular in England while Pohaniec has widespread influence in Sweden. Comet is considered the most important post war stallion in Poland. Bred by Nowy Dwor stud, his daughters left an indelible mark in Polish breeding that remains today. Of his sons, the sire line was very successfully re-introduced through the lease of his grand son *Probat from Sweden. [Top] |
